The Clínica Médica Jardim, da Consolidar e Validar - Center for Health Sciences, is conducting free dental care to about one hundred and fifty children living in social enterprises in Vila Nova de Gaia and who attend the project with the Fun Knowledge - Mathematics Meetings. This comes in the wake of the surveys already carried out nearly four hundred children, aged 8 to 12 years, under the project Strengthening the Know with a Smile Valer, resulting from a partnership between GaiaSocial, MES and the Consolidar e Validar.
On behalf of the city and especially on behalf of children who are being treated, strongly manifest a deep appreciation for the exemplary and selfless manner in which the Clínica Médica Jardim has embraced this project, said Marco Antonio Costa, Deputy Mayor of Gaia in the celebration ceremony of the protocol that defines the conditions for project implementation Consolidate knowledge with a smile worth signed by Andre Correia, President of the Board of GaiaSocial, and António Faria, responsible for the Clínica Jardim. The Deputy Mayor referred, in fact, implemented the project for about four years among children living in social enterprises and Gaia aimed at equal opportunities and social cohesion at the level of learning mathematics.
This project became a Trojan horse that allows us to observe the behavior of children in order to intervene quickly and ensure that everything is done for the sake of their academic training, on an equal footing with other children, Marco António Costa stressed. At a time when so much is said of the welfare state and National Health Service, we have a total and absolute evidence of an irreparable taint the national health service, said the Deputy Mayor, warning of the risk of these children can never have the opportunity to be treated by a dentist if it were not for the altruism of António Faria, responsible for the Clínica Jardim.
These are small gestures like this that can make a difference, he said. Marco António Costa announced, incidentally, that the City of Gaia will take the initiative to contact the EDP Foundation to try to reconcile this project with a program developed worldwide. António Faria showed the willingness of Clínica Jardim to materialize the social responsibility inherent in partnership with GaiaSocial and announced the continuation of the project Strengthening the Know with a Smile Valer, necessary consultations shall be held to finalize the processing of all situations.
António Faria launched the challenge to the 800 dentists Portuguese colleagues to contribute also to the social reintegration of the most disadvantaged children. Based on how the project is underway, the charge of the clinic expressed full readiness to participate in future activities, in partnership with the City of Gaia.
The implementation of the project Strengthening the Know with a Smile Valer fits the constant concerns of the municipality for the dignity of the human person, the family support and personal appreciation of the citizens living in social enterprises. The Municipality of Gaia is committed to strengthening the social support measures to the most disadvantaged families to minimize the difficulties and sacrifices resulting from the economic crisis in the country, promoting and encouraging other projects aimed at social cohesion.
