506. Archipelago of Madeira: Estate of tooth sealants inactive worries Order

The Order of Dentists (OMD) is concerned with the abandonment, in April 2010, the placement of fissure sealants on the teeth of children up to 10 years. As it is concerned with the inactivation of the courtesy van Horacio Roque Foundation (which cost 75 000 euros) and it was going to school for this purpose.
Concerns were expressed today in the public presentation of data related to the implementation of the Regional Oral Health Promotion (PRPSO) in the period between 1995 and 2010. In a press conference, Gil Alves, Doris Sousa and Catarina Cortez showed data that led to lower than 90% (in some cases) to 50% the incidence of dental caries in children between 3 and 10 years (target population the program).
At the age of 3 years all municipalities decreased the prevalence of caries except in the last evaluation, Santana, Santa Cruz, Porto Santo and Câmara de Lobos. In the age of 6 and 9 years all counties except down decay of Porto Santo.
Remember that the squandering of human resources working at PRPSO, implemented from May 19, 2010, led to the abandonment of the team coordinated by Gil Alves. Since that time, a successor strategy team, the dental hygienist to apply sealants was placed in the Porto Santo and Madeira, this was no valence.
By way of balance, reported that programs to promote oral health do not give votes (with a time horizon beyond four years) so only implement informed policy. And prevention is the best answer simply, often, brushing teeth three times a day.
It should be noted that the program began in October 1996 after, in April 1995, the Dental Association have been invited by the then regional director of health, Ermelinda Alves, to collaborate in the implementation of PRPSO. The aim was to achieve the target population from 3 to 10 years old (with traces at 3, 6 and 9). The pre-schools and the first cycle of basic education for all counties in the region were privileged partners, through the Secretariat and the Regional Directorate of Education.
The first phase started in October 1996 in schools in rural districts of Ribeira Brava, Ponta do Sol and Porto Moniz. By the way the poorest oral hygiene and access to dentists. After extended to Calheta, Santana and Sao Vicente (1998); Machico (1999), Santa Cruz and Porto Santo (2000), Câmara de Lobos (2004) and Funchal (2006). The latter includes not yet totally in its elementary schools.
It should be noted that the regional health plan 2004/2010, the goal was to eradicate dental caries, by 2010, 50% of children. In the academic year 2009/2010 the program covered a total of 19 000 children, distributed in 182 schools and 929 classes. Children who received oral health sessions taught by dentists, hygienists, monitors, nurses, nutritionists, teachers and educators. But also for educational auxiliaries, nurses who accept children between 6 and 36 months of age, parents and other professionals.

Extremely distressing and total lack of moral ethics policies persist in contempt for the poor and helpless, when we all know the many hundreds of million of euros transferred annually to the Madeira and is filling the pockets of someone. There is courage and report it if this aberrant situation in the European Court of Human Rights.
The political regime in Portuguese territory lacks profound changes very quickly.

505. Statistics 2010

504. Oral health in Portugal 2010

  • We continue with many people in front of decision-making powers (...) that influence the oral health policy, with an average age of retrograde mentalities that make Portugal continues in the tail of Europe in terms of oral health, much closer to the Third world than most developed countries, interested only in their own interests and making a clean sweep of what is the most elementary basic human rights of the population in terms of oral health. How much will the conscience of each one of these people see a child or adolescent victim of sheer neglect of oral health? Perhaps this fact is not to put their children or grandchildren.
Ends the year 2010 with little or absolutely no steps to amend the policy dismal oral health in Portugal, leaving the population increasingly difficult levels of oral health care in developed countries.
The persistence of the current team of the Ministry of Health in outstanding oral health services provided under the National Health Service, whose last example is in trying to end the career of doctors dentists in Portugal, a future prospect far worse access to care oral health of the population.
This atrocious policy of destruction of existing care (see for example the same hospitals, with Portuguese required to be born abroad, or for emergencies, forcing people to move more than fifty miles to be watched, often waiting more than twelve hours) lies directly on the population with fewer resources, paying the highest taxes in Europe but unable to use private services.
Associated with the political demagogue facilitating the rich bourgeoisie, organizations linked to the oral health sector do little or nothing to change the situation, embarking on a path to promiscuous government policies, thereby putting themselves at the service of wealthy bourgeois class could to pay large sums for treatments and leaving to chance the whole working population of middle and lower classes that, despite paying the highest tax rates of all European countries and contribute directly to the training of dentists in practice have no rights assists in terms of oral health.
The prevention of oral health in terms of primary health, are taken dropper under the circumstances, trampling the rights enshrined in the Constitution, without any minimum strategy for the future and openly criticized by the Court, by violating the equal constitutional rights.
Allied to the destruction of what remains of oral health in the National Health Service, the Ministry of Health liberalizing the entry of the private within the oral health often associated with foreign multinationals, which first put its desire to make money on the health of the Portuguese, acting independently of any priority public health needs.
The higher the health authorities of the country, namely the Directorate - General for Health, trample on sponsor brochures, photocopies or advertising, spending millions and millions of euros taken directly from funds that were to be delivered to dentists to treat their patients ; School Health in practice does not exist, leaving millions of children and young people who have luck in life.
Never heard the Directorate - General Health or Dental Association publicly defend the extreme urgency of an Oral Health Bulletin, particularly children and adolescents, to enable an effective policy for combating and eradicating child tooth decay in Portugal. They seem to prefer them to continue in it.
Nothing was in most urgent need to protect the oral health professionals within their working relationships with employers, leaving them at the mercy of unscrupulous crooks to exploit hand - to - cheap labor.
We continue with many people in front of decision-making powers, the Government, the Parliament and the industry organizations that influence the oral health policy, with an average age of retrograde mentalities that make Portugal continues in the tail of Europe in terms of oral health , much closer to Third World countries than more developed countries, interested only in their own interests and making a clean sweep of what is the most elementary basic human rights of the population in terms of oral health. How much will the conscience of each one of these people see a child or adolescent victim of sheer neglect of oral health? Perhaps this fact is not to put their children or grandchildren.

503. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

We walked for another Christmas and the beginning of a new year. At this point we remember all our family and friends, to whom we renew our desire for peace and health.
Also this blog want a better year in 2011 for all Portuguese, and that the right to oral health is devoted to all, without limitations of social or economic.
Installed in the political governance of the country, and particularly the Members represented in Parliament, the Minister of Health, the Lord Director - General for Health and the President of the Republic, we want to fulfill their obligations for positions that were elected and that morally understand that oral health is a fundamental and unquestionable human. We ask all politicians to join efforts and determine the general population to access oral health care, particularly of poor people, children, young people and older people and the socially excluded. Who like to have a child without the slightest chance to have their teeth properly treated? Someone is able to calculate the human suffering, physical and psychological, that a child has to carry throughout their lives by a simple lack of adequate treatment and oral health worth?
Oral health professionals are asked to contribute to improving the oral health of all the Portuguese, without discrimination based on social groups or economic classes, their training was paid for by taxes of all Portuguese who work at that morally should also provide oral health care to all people no matter what their possibilities.
Charity in oral health is not no resolution of the problem, rather it serves to perpetuate existing problems.
Portugal can not remain the poor relation of the oral health of European Union countries. After all, dental caries is a disease that can and should be eradicated from Portugal.
