Calls that reference is made to the source of the articles, which is the end of each post on blog.
You can follow the activities of oral health in social networks, reading and subscribing to Facebook or activate the Feedburner RSS on your computer to keep track of updates to Oral Health.
Requested to make disclosure of this blog for all your contacts, you can be sure that someone will thank you in the future. Oral health is an asset that relates to everyone, without distinction of social group, race, gender, age or geographical location; oral health is the first entrance of our body and determines the quality of life of each of nodes.

514. Oral Health in Portugal, a matter of common sense.

Blog has this rule for alerting the authorities, professional institutions and civil society in general to the necessary reform of the oral health care of the Portuguese population and their integration into the National Health Service, under the same circumstances with the private sector.
In the XXI century makes sense to make every effort so that the Portuguese Ministry of Health consider oral health as a priority within valence of public health, integrating the health care priorities and developing all the means that will allow the elimination of existing shameful accessibility of access to dental care, they are victims in the first grade, children, youth and elderly dependent, resource-poor and geographically distant from large urban centers.
It is urgent to reformulate ethics followed by the current team of the Ministry of Health, with weak or cowardly and submissive disadvantaged with the strong, as it removes the fundamental rights of health established in the Constitution and delivery lucrative business of private health.
Made a thorough analysis of the situation of oral health in Portugal (see the study here, see their analysis on the links that are at the end of text), the Health Ministry and the Directorate - General for Health made a clean sweep of all their findings the same study and threw in the trash, until now there was never any initiative taken by the government in relation to the real needs pressing oral health specified in that study. It is also noted those who through their silence, lets do nothing and everything remains the same situation.
While the Ministry of Health spends hundreds of millions of euros in circulation of tens of thousands of abortions all over the country (does not seem to care that there are older than the workforce in a few years), the protection of child health and youth is an absolute illusion you do not see the end of the tunnel.
The many thousands of millions of euros that the state has lost absolutely ruinous to the sale of wireline phone to PT without public tender, the expenditure of hundreds of millions of euros in buying military equipment (submarines, already damaged when its acquisition ), hundreds of millions of euros in airports that do not pass the paper (Ota) or that are completely flies (Beja), the waste of money bet on the TGV is not known whether there will be some day, gave it all together to improve significantly the primary care population and there is no longer any Portuguese child to be excluded from oral health care.
Morally and ethically, there are people who are providing a poor service to the country or being in the government wants to support the measures irrational, discriminatory and violative of human rights carried out by the current team of the Ministry of Health.

512. In the United States do not mess with the oral health

 Chronic Disease Prevention
and Health Promotion
In the United States is working hard on preventing and combating diseases related to oral health, benefiting the whole population.
In Portugal buys the silence of those who can and should publicly denounce the almost complete neglect in the provision of oral health care to the population by the Ministry of Health

511. British dentists evaluated the Internet

In the United Kingdom, patients can now assess dentists' offices through an online service launched by the British Ministry of Health.
The British government has launched an online service that allows citizens to evaluate and rank the services of a dentist, as already happens in other areas of health. With the creation of this service, patients can access information in one place, such as schedules, locations and additional services offered by 22 000 dentists of National Health Service.
With a total of 1.2 million dental visits per month, the Government intends to make life easier for patients by giving them information about dental services, but also communicate directly with professionals in the National Health Service. This experiment aims to improve the performance of dental clinics, through the exchange of information.
* * *
It is essential to give patients the opportunity to also assess the oral health care they receive. At the same time would also be an optimal strategy to combat abusive practices that constantly can still be observed in numerous practices or clinics (service charge without informing the price before the treatments, the passage of several bills for the same query to optimize the maximum possible profit and seriously harm the Social Security and / or fictitious ADSE with contributions, etc.).
This is one of the flagship measures that the Order of Dentists should have implemented long ago. The ability to evaluate the services provided at all levels will be essential to maintain high quality standards, ensuring the health of patients and allowing each person to freely choose their doctor dentist. Is it so hard to put this strategy into practice in our country?

The contribution of dentistry for the health of the population is not limited in their exercise as a liberal profession.
The dentist will have to act in the future as an important agent for promoting comprehensive health, engaging actively in prevention, screening and treatment of all diseases that have to do with the welfare of patients, should be interested in the integration of its activities in local health facilities (health centers, hospitals, public or private), participating in and promoting meetings with other health professionals, particularly with the medical specialties that are closer (Dental, ENT, Maxillofacial Surgery face), but also family medicine or public health.
Only in this way may establish a closer collaboration with the entire medical community, with the ultimate objective treatment and welfare of patients.

At a time is so much talk of economic crisis and the increasing difficulties of the Portuguese in access to health care, it is worth remembering also that the Portuguese state has spent the past twenty years, hundreds of millions of euros to train dentists . The question is: how much you paid each Portuguese for the formation of many thousands of dentists and how many of them are now working on the National Health Service? May not know other country in the world where highly specialized human resources in the state invests tens of thousands of euros for their training, then do not have any use in the National Health Service. It's good to know who are really responsible for the disaster of oral health in Portugal, after many hundreds of millions of euros spent our taxesIt's time for some politicians begin to be held criminally liable for these policies.

509. ANGOLA: Children are agents against dental caries

Huambo - The project aims to create smile this year, agents nozzle infant health in schools, so that through lectures and guided demonstrations to reinforce the message against tooth decay. It is also perspective for this year to create children's theater groups for children to be activists against tooth decay and other mouth diseases, which affect mostly the small ones.
The project manager, Sara Soeli Leandro, revealed today in ANGOP, that the creation of child-raising agents should be reflected in the expansion of health activities nozzle, involving a larger number of city schools. Sara Soeli Leandro said that to consolidate the theoretical knowledge that children will learn in the lectures will be distributed 100,000 health kits nozzle, consisting of brushes, and pepsodente explanatory booklet on the care to be taken during brushing.
He explained that in each lecture the students have the opportunity to make an accompanied brushing, your teeth, so they learn the technique of brushing your teeth healthy. Noted that the supervised brushing is done through a portable kit (brushodrome) acquired in 2010, consisting of sink, mirror and water.
According to the source, this work of public health is a provincial government initiative through the local department of health in partnership with the education sector and in spite of economic constraints, the project covered smile, in 2010, over 50,000 children across province. Were also mounted in 2010 Stomatological sections in the districts of Londuimbali (Auto-Hama), Ukuma, Bailundo, Huambo and Katchiungo.
The challenge is to continue, during this year, so that in the 11 municipalities that make up the province people have this service running. He regretted, however, the lack of dental technicians in the area so that services work regularly. We have proposed a course in dentistry in the province, we expect the government to approve the document to reduce the deficit of tables continued.
Another bet of the project is to continue to pay attention to pregnant women through prenatal conduct, to direct and move differently pregnant women to avoid many complications that may have and also dispel the myth that pregnancy can not extract the tooth. Implemented by the Management Company Private Health AMOSMID, the project has existed for more than five years and has been applauded by many families, especially rural communities, because many children learned to brush their teeth in school lectures, after five years of age.
* * *
How many projects will need to import from Third World countries so that in Portugal there is also addressed preventive oral health care to all children and young people of all primary schools and secondary schools? Is it only important to fill the little heads of boys with Sex Education?
We're tired of seeing millions and millions of pamphlets produced by the Directorate-General for Health and campaigns exorbitant money poorly spent on advertising spots on television, in which no contribution to improving the oral health of the Portuguese. All that money would have been much better spent if it had been spent on medical care, many hundreds of thousands of children could now have a smile that perhaps never again will the rest of their lives. Can not believe that the Director - General for Health and Minister of Health are so people so cold and callous to the suffering of children and youth in need of oral health, these children who will be marked physically and psychologically for the rest of their lives. There is nobody who does not realize that a prevention was extremely well made cheaper by the Health Ministry to do the treatments only when any oral diseases.
Current policies for oral health in Portugal need a revolution at all levels.

508. dental implant

The dental implant is a dental service run to compensate for the absence of one or more teeth damaged that they have the possibility of recovery. Placement of prosthetic bridges, or has the disadvantage of these simple remain resting on the adjacent teeth and provide room for movement of false teeth, which is not true in the setting by using the implant. The price for the procedure is not very high if taken into account the superior quality and longevity of dental implant duration.
The dental implant procedure is performed by placing the bone of the jaw or maxillary beneath the gingiva, of a titanium screw, which acts as support for fixing a dental prosthesis. The micro surgery to fix the titanium screw is done in the dentist's office with local anesthesia and takes about one hour to perform. Before completion of the implant when the implant is placed with the tooth (s), it is necessary to await a recovery period of three to six months for correct integration of the screw on mandibular or maxillary bone structure.
The performance of dental implant is restricted to people with bone formation already full, which usually occurs near the majority, and which have serious health problems and therefore require a thorough assessment of the candidate prior to the prosthesis.

Renato Matos, member Executive Board of that hospital, Lusa said that the aim is to raise awareness and publicize the main causes of this disease, the number of cases has increased in Portugal.

Knowing that the number of boarding schools in stomatology in Portugal this year is zero and someone tries to strangle his career these professionals, it was good they were to land and take account of the blunders that practice as senior executives of public administration.
Well, there are still doctors who flock against dentists who never accountable for their decisions, thanks to friends and vested interests in senior policy-making in the country. It would be great that these leaders would never be allowed to have access to medical oncology in the future.

506. Archipelago of Madeira: Estate of tooth sealants inactive worries Order

The Order of Dentists (OMD) is concerned with the abandonment, in April 2010, the placement of fissure sealants on the teeth of children up to 10 years. As it is concerned with the inactivation of the courtesy van Horacio Roque Foundation (which cost 75 000 euros) and it was going to school for this purpose.
Concerns were expressed today in the public presentation of data related to the implementation of the Regional Oral Health Promotion (PRPSO) in the period between 1995 and 2010. In a press conference, Gil Alves, Doris Sousa and Catarina Cortez showed data that led to lower than 90% (in some cases) to 50% the incidence of dental caries in children between 3 and 10 years (target population the program).
At the age of 3 years all municipalities decreased the prevalence of caries except in the last evaluation, Santana, Santa Cruz, Porto Santo and Câmara de Lobos. In the age of 6 and 9 years all counties except down decay of Porto Santo.
Remember that the squandering of human resources working at PRPSO, implemented from May 19, 2010, led to the abandonment of the team coordinated by Gil Alves. Since that time, a successor strategy team, the dental hygienist to apply sealants was placed in the Porto Santo and Madeira, this was no valence.
By way of balance, reported that programs to promote oral health do not give votes (with a time horizon beyond four years) so only implement informed policy. And prevention is the best answer simply, often, brushing teeth three times a day.
It should be noted that the program began in October 1996 after, in April 1995, the Dental Association have been invited by the then regional director of health, Ermelinda Alves, to collaborate in the implementation of PRPSO. The aim was to achieve the target population from 3 to 10 years old (with traces at 3, 6 and 9). The pre-schools and the first cycle of basic education for all counties in the region were privileged partners, through the Secretariat and the Regional Directorate of Education.
The first phase started in October 1996 in schools in rural districts of Ribeira Brava, Ponta do Sol and Porto Moniz. By the way the poorest oral hygiene and access to dentists. After extended to Calheta, Santana and Sao Vicente (1998); Machico (1999), Santa Cruz and Porto Santo (2000), Câmara de Lobos (2004) and Funchal (2006). The latter includes not yet totally in its elementary schools.
It should be noted that the regional health plan 2004/2010, the goal was to eradicate dental caries, by 2010, 50% of children. In the academic year 2009/2010 the program covered a total of 19 000 children, distributed in 182 schools and 929 classes. Children who received oral health sessions taught by dentists, hygienists, monitors, nurses, nutritionists, teachers and educators. But also for educational auxiliaries, nurses who accept children between 6 and 36 months of age, parents and other professionals.

Extremely distressing and total lack of moral ethics policies persist in contempt for the poor and helpless, when we all know the many hundreds of million of euros transferred annually to the Madeira and is filling the pockets of someone. There is courage and report it if this aberrant situation in the European Court of Human Rights.
The political regime in Portuguese territory lacks profound changes very quickly.

505. Statistics 2010

504. Oral health in Portugal 2010

  • We continue with many people in front of decision-making powers (...) that influence the oral health policy, with an average age of retrograde mentalities that make Portugal continues in the tail of Europe in terms of oral health, much closer to the Third world than most developed countries, interested only in their own interests and making a clean sweep of what is the most elementary basic human rights of the population in terms of oral health. How much will the conscience of each one of these people see a child or adolescent victim of sheer neglect of oral health? Perhaps this fact is not to put their children or grandchildren.
Ends the year 2010 with little or absolutely no steps to amend the policy dismal oral health in Portugal, leaving the population increasingly difficult levels of oral health care in developed countries.
The persistence of the current team of the Ministry of Health in outstanding oral health services provided under the National Health Service, whose last example is in trying to end the career of doctors dentists in Portugal, a future prospect far worse access to care oral health of the population.
This atrocious policy of destruction of existing care (see for example the same hospitals, with Portuguese required to be born abroad, or for emergencies, forcing people to move more than fifty miles to be watched, often waiting more than twelve hours) lies directly on the population with fewer resources, paying the highest taxes in Europe but unable to use private services.
Associated with the political demagogue facilitating the rich bourgeoisie, organizations linked to the oral health sector do little or nothing to change the situation, embarking on a path to promiscuous government policies, thereby putting themselves at the service of wealthy bourgeois class could to pay large sums for treatments and leaving to chance the whole working population of middle and lower classes that, despite paying the highest tax rates of all European countries and contribute directly to the training of dentists in practice have no rights assists in terms of oral health.
The prevention of oral health in terms of primary health, are taken dropper under the circumstances, trampling the rights enshrined in the Constitution, without any minimum strategy for the future and openly criticized by the Court, by violating the equal constitutional rights.
Allied to the destruction of what remains of oral health in the National Health Service, the Ministry of Health liberalizing the entry of the private within the oral health often associated with foreign multinationals, which first put its desire to make money on the health of the Portuguese, acting independently of any priority public health needs.
The higher the health authorities of the country, namely the Directorate - General for Health, trample on sponsor brochures, photocopies or advertising, spending millions and millions of euros taken directly from funds that were to be delivered to dentists to treat their patients ; School Health in practice does not exist, leaving millions of children and young people who have luck in life.
Never heard the Directorate - General Health or Dental Association publicly defend the extreme urgency of an Oral Health Bulletin, particularly children and adolescents, to enable an effective policy for combating and eradicating child tooth decay in Portugal. They seem to prefer them to continue in it.
Nothing was in most urgent need to protect the oral health professionals within their working relationships with employers, leaving them at the mercy of unscrupulous crooks to exploit hand - to - cheap labor.
We continue with many people in front of decision-making powers, the Government, the Parliament and the industry organizations that influence the oral health policy, with an average age of retrograde mentalities that make Portugal continues in the tail of Europe in terms of oral health , much closer to Third World countries than more developed countries, interested only in their own interests and making a clean sweep of what is the most elementary basic human rights of the population in terms of oral health. How much will the conscience of each one of these people see a child or adolescent victim of sheer neglect of oral health? Perhaps this fact is not to put their children or grandchildren.

503. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

We walked for another Christmas and the beginning of a new year. At this point we remember all our family and friends, to whom we renew our desire for peace and health.
Also this blog want a better year in 2011 for all Portuguese, and that the right to oral health is devoted to all, without limitations of social or economic.
Installed in the political governance of the country, and particularly the Members represented in Parliament, the Minister of Health, the Lord Director - General for Health and the President of the Republic, we want to fulfill their obligations for positions that were elected and that morally understand that oral health is a fundamental and unquestionable human. We ask all politicians to join efforts and determine the general population to access oral health care, particularly of poor people, children, young people and older people and the socially excluded. Who like to have a child without the slightest chance to have their teeth properly treated? Someone is able to calculate the human suffering, physical and psychological, that a child has to carry throughout their lives by a simple lack of adequate treatment and oral health worth?
Oral health professionals are asked to contribute to improving the oral health of all the Portuguese, without discrimination based on social groups or economic classes, their training was paid for by taxes of all Portuguese who work at that morally should also provide oral health care to all people no matter what their possibilities.
Charity in oral health is not no resolution of the problem, rather it serves to perpetuate existing problems.
Portugal can not remain the poor relation of the oral health of European Union countries. After all, dental caries is a disease that can and should be eradicated from Portugal.

502. Azores: Less health and poorer health

The boards of the three hospitals of the Azores are going to record the time delay of arrival to the emergency room doctors who are prevention, today announced the regional secretary of Health We provide guidance to boards of hospitals to proceed to registration calls for the prevention and recording the time at which the trader came to the emergency, Miguel Correia said, stressing that this is a measure of teaching.
Miguel Correia, who spoke at the opening session of the X Conference of General Practitioners, in Horta, Faial, responded this way to the defense that there has been in hospitals in the Azores, after the regional government had suspended partially medical preventions overnight in some specialties such as psychiatry, oncology and dentistry.
The regional secretary of Health stressed that for those who accuse the government of undermining the quality of service provided to users with these cuts in prevention, this is a measure that will definitely improve the quality of service. Miguel Correia also announced, to combat waste in the health sector, the creation of a working group that aims to create common rules in all health units in relation to medical prescriptions and the use of supplementary diagnostic.
The regional secretary of Health also noted that the Executive intends to create more regional health units in the island and family health units to combat the lack of general practitioners in the archipelago. According to Miguel Correia, the government also intends to increase the number of users per family doctor which is currently set at 1500 patients per doctor.
However, the clinical director of the Hospital of Ponta Delgada, Laurindo Frias said at the end of a meeting of the medical committee, which cuts in prevention adopted by the Government of the Azores were not accepted by the medical staff of the hospital. The meeting was marked by great defense and this team has a unanimous position that these measures can not go forward. Therefore, there will be nothing to collaboration that measures are implemented, the responsible clinician said, adding that he was told that the scale of next week is equal to the above.
It relates to the restrictive measures of prevention in some medical specialties determined by the regional executive, against which Laurindo Frias also manifested. I myself am against these cuts, always was, but now I'm more legitimate to say that I am against because they all have the same opinion, he said, admitting that it may be taken a position of strength after a meeting that goes to the direction of the clinical hospital. In this regard, he stressed that the medical commission is an advisory body to the medical director, adding that now will think about this with your team and then send the result to the board and guardianship.
The cuts in prevention of the specialties of Psychiatry, Plastic Surgery, Stomatology and Oncology at the Hospital of Ponta Delgada were implemented from 01 November and part of the package of restrictive measures of the Regional Government applied to the three regional hospitals.

501. President asks the regulator to be inflexible in licensing

At the opening session of the XIX Congress of the Dental Association, which runs until Saturday in Santa Maria da Feira, Orlando Monteiro da Silva said that these professionals lay a huge expectation in the new president of the Health Regulatory Authority, Jorge Simoes, who was present in the session.
In licensing, we must be inflexible requirements in health care, said Orlando Monteiro da Silva. Beyond this urgent need, identified another urgency that is properly fit the activity of insurance companies, conventions and subsystems, said.
The president of the Dental Association said it is essential that it is identifiable, clearly, what insurers pay or reimburse and conventions, so they can not confuse or even deceive their customers. We can not continue to have misleading advertising, publicizing acts free and packet procedures where supposedly everything is included, highlighted.
Orlando Monteiro da Silva later approached the issue of Health Regulatory Authority to charge fees that seem like a real tax to clinics and medical and dental services: We have had great difficulty in identifying the role of Health Services Regulatory Authority to justify this huge sum that all year is charged. The consequence is higher prices and costs, declining quality and a vision of health that will be increasingly seen as a business, he said.
Orlando Monteiro da Silva also defended the extension of the National Oral Health to more groups and warned of the need for replacement of dentists leaving the hospital when retirement and recruitment of dentists to the health centers of the most isolated regions of the country . Referring physicians of retirement age, the president explained that the specialty of dentistry is disappearing from public hospitals and that is tragic that these professionals are not being replaced by younger colleagues.
Minutes before, in his speech, the president of the Health Regulatory entities expressed readiness to work on strengthening citizens' confidence in dentistry in Portugal and to increase the feeling of safety, security and the needs of users, which is the main objective of all stakeholders in the health system.

It is hoped that the words expressed by the president of the Health Regulatory Authority are not merely the circumstances, taking into account the breakdown of oral health in Portugal made by past governments.
It's good to remember that all pay taxes to train dentists for our public universities, these same dentists must serve all Portuguese - that's why did the National Health Service.
The atrocity starring the Ministry of Health, oral medicine away to private enterprise and liquidating, for example, the specialty of dental public hospitals, is one of the most serious attacks on public health itself of its population. This policy has a face, the current team of the Ministry of Health.

500. Vacancies for stomatology in 2011

In January next year, health centers throughout the Northern Region will begin training 162 family physicians. Within four years, the interns will be specialists in family medicine and will cover a population of 243 000 users. The vacancies for additional internship in the specialty of family medicine represent a third of the total.
Vacancies by specialty were opened as needed now and in coming years of retirement medical service. To Stomatology and Imunohemoterapia not open vacancies for training doctors.

In six months the Hospital de Leiria spent over 1 400 000 euros and contracting services to physicians, which translates into an increase of more than 665 000 euros compared to the expense of 2008. The hospital costs justifies the increasing needs assistance to more users.
In defense presented in the audit of the TC, the Hospital de Leiria justify the hiring of more medical services because of the small number of doctors serving the HSA, including a doctor in the specialties of Otolaryngology, Stomatology and Radiology, alongside the increased need for assistance health, with the growing number of users and to practice medical procedures. The HSA advances also have been complied with the guidelines circulated by the Chief Executive [Department of Health].

For the Portuguese understand the true policy of the current team of the Ministry of Health: extinguish the medical specialty of dentists in the National Health Service in the coming years. Years from now we must go foreign to have a dental consultation.
It is regrettable that the Order of Dentists and the Portuguese Society of Stomatology and Dental Medicine do little or nothing for yet another fierce attack on the National Health Service and health of the Portuguese, who had not occurred during the Estado Novo. Private interests or other games?

The Clínica Médica Jardim, da Consolidar e Validar - Center for Health Sciences, is conducting free dental care to about one hundred and fifty children living in social enterprises in Vila Nova de Gaia and who attend the project with the Fun Knowledge - Mathematics Meetings. This comes in the wake of the surveys already carried out nearly four hundred children, aged 8 to 12 years, under the project Strengthening the Know with a Smile Valer, resulting from a partnership between GaiaSocial, MES and the Consolidar e Validar.
On behalf of the city and especially on behalf of children who are being treated, strongly manifest a deep appreciation for the exemplary and selfless manner in which the Clínica Médica Jardim has embraced this project, said Marco Antonio Costa, Deputy Mayor of Gaia in the celebration ceremony of the protocol that defines the conditions for project implementation Consolidate knowledge with a smile worth signed by Andre Correia, President of the Board of GaiaSocial, and António Faria, responsible for the Clínica Jardim. The Deputy Mayor referred, in fact, implemented the project for about four years among children living in social enterprises and Gaia aimed at equal opportunities and social cohesion at the level of learning mathematics.
This project became a Trojan horse that allows us to observe the behavior of children in order to intervene quickly and ensure that everything is done for the sake of their academic training, on an equal footing with other children, Marco António Costa stressed. At a time when so much is said of the welfare state and National Health Service, we have a total and absolute evidence of an irreparable taint the national health service, said the Deputy Mayor, warning of the risk of these children can never have the opportunity to be treated by a dentist if it were not for the altruism of António Faria, responsible for the Clínica Jardim.
These are small gestures like this that can make a difference, he said. Marco António Costa announced, incidentally, that the City of Gaia will take the initiative to contact the EDP Foundation to try to reconcile this project with a program developed worldwide. António Faria showed the willingness of Clínica Jardim to materialize the social responsibility inherent in partnership with GaiaSocial and announced the continuation of the project Strengthening the Know with a Smile Valer, necessary consultations shall be held to finalize the processing of all situations.

Based on how the project is underway, the charge of the clinic expressed full readiness to participate in future activities, in partnership with the City of Gaia.
The implementation of the project Strengthening the Know with a Smile Valer fits the constant concerns of the municipality for the dignity of the human person, the family support and personal appreciation of the citizens living in social enterprises. The Municipality of Gaia is committed to strengthening the social support measures to the most disadvantaged families to minimize the difficulties and sacrifices resulting from the economic crisis in the country, promoting and encouraging other projects aimed at social cohesion.
