Recife, Brazil - will be launched this Saturday (21), Project Smile: Solidarity Action for a Better Smile, in the Park May 13, Centre of Recife, from 9am to 16h, within the celebrations of the Week for Oral Health. The initiative, the Faculty of Dentistry of Recife (FOR) in partnership with the municipal departments of Health and Social Welfare Policy, aims to promote education in oral health in the area.
About 60 students and 20 teachers FOR develop the activities of diagnosis of oral lesions and talk to the caries-prevention education and cancer of the mouth, emphasizing the importance of self-examination and early detection of lesions that can lead to cancer. If detected persons in need of treatment will leave for the municipal health network and the FOR.
In Park May 13, called the Pavilion will be mounted on Oral Health Education, where there will be presentation of puppets and tips on brushing and application of topical fluoride. Eight species of portable fonts provided by the Department of Health will be installed in the Park May 13 to guide children.
They will be distributed 500 brushes and dental creams to the public, from children to seniors. The material was donated by the Department of Health of Recife, through the Coordination of Oral Health. The estimate is that 800 people participating the event.

This news is also thinking in isolated villages in rural areas of the country, including the islands, where access to health care is extremely costly for the population of low economic resources. Why not bring these initiatives to Portugal, with adaptations?
