Now, the project founders are asking colleagues around the world to support the World Day of Free Dental Treatment on 31 May.
The project was initiated by Professor Yaroslav Zablotskyy, president of the Association of Ukrainian Implantologistas, and spread to other countries such as Poland, Russia and Georgia. The organizers held charity events in different places to provide professional care for the elderly. Until now, doctors more than 20 countries supported concerned. 615. 40% of portuguese children with dental caries at 6 years of age

Are fewer and fewer children among its and 12 years who have dental caries. At least that's indicating the preliminary data from the Third National Study of Prevalence of Oral Diseases, presented as part of World Health Day.
According to the study, 60% of children under six years has not decay, a number that rose 9% compared to 2006 and 27% compared to 2000. However there are still some inequalities between different parts of the country, with the center zone to be the one with more children with cavities: 53%. North with 46% It follows, Lisbon and Tagus Valley with 40%, with 34% Algarve and Alentejo with 29%.
In relation to children 12 years, Cristina Cádima, the National Program for Promotion of Oral Health, the Health General Directorate, said that 56% had no caries and is also the center area with the worst results, with 51% of children this age without decay, followed by the north with 53%, Algarve and Lisbon and Tagus Valley with 58% and Alentejo with 53%.
The study also evaluated the DMF index (mean number of teeth with caries, missing or filled children present) and here too there have been improvements. As the program begins at age six, the index focused on children 12 years and it was noticed that each had an average of 0.77 teeth decayed, missing or filled, when in 2006 the figure stood at 1.48 . For this index, the target set by the World Health Organisation, to be achieved by 2020, corresponding to 1.50, so that Portugal has surpassed the goal.
At the close of the conference, the Health Minister Paulo Macedo said schools as "authentic institutions promoting oral health" and announced that the SOBE project, intervening in school libraries, won the World Dental Hygienist Awards.
* * *
This study says that in Portugal there are 40 children in 100 with tooth decay, ie almost half of Portuguese children have tooth decay at six years of age.
The almost absolute disregard to combat the scourge of this infectious disease early in life can be noted in the near absence of a true health policy primary care for early childhood in the country.
It is extremely dramatic attend a European Union country has almost half of its children with dental caries, before entering the first cycle of basic education.
Heartbreaking compare recent data with years in which the number of children far exceeded; the dramatic effect of reducing the birth rate is the direct result of the destruction of social rights and that will create serious problems of inter-generational sustainability.
Today palms will be replaced by moans very soon.

614. Billing dentists decreased about 40 percent in 2012

The billing for dental offices decreased by about 40 percent in 2012, as a result of the crisis that causes people to not spend on prevention, revealed the president of the Dental Association advances the agency Lusa. The crisis affects, and how, the offices of dentistry, said Orlando Monteiro da Silva, on the sidelines of the World Day ceremonies of Oral Health, who pointed out this Wednesday.
The president said that the charging of 5,000 to 6,000 dental offices decreased from 30 to 40 percent last year, compared to 2011. This decrease, he said, due to the crisis and the fact that people postpone, always that can, going to the dentist, unless it is to treat the pain and the obvious discomfort. To Orlando Monteiro da Silva, the consequences of removal of offices can result in a reversal of optimistic results in terms of oral health, which have occurred in Portugal.
In times of austerity, the crisis affects the health and in particular, oral health, lamented.
* * *
Equity between the provision of dental services among the public and the private, the creation of the Single Oral Health Bulletin, the complete overhaul of prevention programs, the setting of price cap for dental treatments and geographical mobility of doctors dentists are proposals already made several years ago that can reverse the dire situation of oral medicine in Portugal.
The problems of oral health in Portugal have nothing to do with the economic crisis; all the existing problems in dentistry are due to the conservative mentality and interests installed in the sector, preventing the adoption of new strategies that put the oral health to everyone, remaining confined to cooperative members and monopoly interests, seeking only profit.

613. Dental checks will be extended to 15 year olds

The program of dental checks will be extended to young people aged 15 years, covering about 50,000 users, an extension without additional cost to the National Health Service (SNS), according to the Order of Dentists. Speaking to Lusa agency, the president of the College of Dentists, Orlando Monteiro da Silva, explained that there has been agreement with the Ministry of Health on the extension of the program of oral health in young people. So far, the program covered schoolchildren up to 13 years, which last year alone received 300,000 dental checks.
Besides children, in 2012, the program made it possible to check about 100,000 pregnant women, elderly people with solidarity supplement and patients with HIV / AIDS. The program's budget in 2013 is 16 million, the same as the previous year. After the agreement with the Ministry of Health, the Medical Dentist says that this time is being done technical work to operationalize the extension to 15 year olds, not helping when they can get checks to be issued for this new public-target. The president justified the possibility of additional costs without extension of the program for the SNS with the improvement of oral health indices of children already covered in the program: the improved oral health indices and decreased the risk that implied an extension of the program. It's totally different take a child to 15 years that has never been seen or have a child or young person who has already been followed.
In addition, Orlando Monteiro da Silva says the Dental does not arise out of the cost-cutting effort that is asked across the health. Earlier this month, the Health Minister also announced in parliament that the agreement with the Order resulted in the first steps for performing screening for oral cancer. Orlando Monteiro da Silva explained now Lusa that the technical implementation is almost complete and that there are already guidelines on screening numbers, biopsies and populations to achieve.
Among the population most at risk of oral cancer are smokers and excessive drinkers and the older population, with the risk increasing especially after 50 years. According to the president, the tumors in the mouth at an early stage can be cured and represent less financial and personal costs. If everything is approved for this year, we are available to host this screening shed and treatment of malignant lesions. It's all set when we start, Monteiro da Silva said in statements collected by Lusa.
* * *
On the way in the right direction. But lack implement the oral health card for all children and youth; the dentist-check program covers only a small percentage of the actual needs of oral health of children and young people, leaving out the vast majority of those in need, such as those attending secondary or university education (those most in need of support).
Do not understand the assignment of check-dentists who assumed by social neglect contracted HIV / AIDS (the tax money paid by those who work should never be targeted for such people). Also do not understand the lack of implementation of a network of health care public oral medicine, in the same circumstances that the private sector; a real shame of public health policy that no one dare report.

611. Excellency the President of the Alentejo Regional Health Authority

For people who have a short memory for its own sake.

(...) Not resign myself with morality gestures and what happened to me not will be repeated with another person; I intend rather that the acts are made and cleared responsibilities (medical procedures dental or practiced dentistry or have been denied me) as far as justice is possible and feasible, or that it will only have a moralizing effect of heinous acts committed within the National Health Service and that Your Excellency should never allow them to be forgotten or that you pass a cloth over them. Do not chase anyone; just want to understand who and why was subject to certain dental care and was unable to have access to other types of dental care, because I think I was severely mistreated when fully trusted the treatments that made me, and that they are reverberate permanently and extremely negative effect on my current quality of life.

The position occupied in a given position can not be an excuse for civil and criminal irresponsibility of medical acts, in particular on people at the material time were minors. No one has the right to prevent the course of justice in cases involving fundamental human rights.
Portugal is still a state of law and can not be allowed certain type of abuse that condition and determine the quality of life of another person, permanently and for the rest of his life; this situation is even more severe because it is practiced on children.

Its most common site is the floor of the mouth (under the tongue mucosa), board side of the tongue and soft palate.
Over 90% of these cancers are called carcinomas affecting the oral mucosa epithelium. The other forms represent rarer tumors and include lymphomas, sarcomas, melanomas, etc. Oral cancer is associated with high mortality rates, which is due in large part to its late diagnosis.
2 - ORAL CANCER is FREQ?
Carcinoma of the head and neck is the 6th most common cancer worldwide and accounts for approximately 2.8% of all cancers. Oral cancer is more common in men above 45 years of age, increasing significantly to 65 years.
3 - WHAT CANCER RISK FACTORS ORAL?
Tobacco and alcohol are the main risk factors in the development of oral cancer. Tobacco smoke is associated with several changes of the oral mucosa and has a direct carcinogenic effect on epithelial cells. It is estimated that 8 out of 10 patients diagnosed with oral cancer consume or have consumed tobacco, and these patients one 5-7 times higher risk of developing oral cancer compared with non-smokers.
Oral Cancer is thus strongly associated with an unhealthy lifestyle, that is, the consumption of tobacco and alcohol associated with a reduced intake of vegetables and fruits and so poor in foods containing antioxidants.

Examples of signs and symptoms: persistent ulcers, hardened areas, areas of tissue growth, lesions that do not heal, tooth mobility, pain, paresthesia (loss of sensitivity), dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), white and red lesions, lymphadenopathy (nodes enlarged lymph).
5 - HOW IS THIS ORAL CANCER?
Oral cancer is mainly with surgery and radiation therapy, alone or combined. The key to treatment is early diagnosis of injuries, a factor which significantly improves survival rates to the disease.
6 - ORAL CANCER KILLS!
Despite the advances of recent years in the diagnosis and treatment of oral cancer this continues to have a very high mortality rate. It is estimated that about 6 in 10 patients of oral cancer die within 5 years after the date of diagnosis. The failure appears to be linked to the fact that most cases are not diagnosed in time.
7 - HOW CAN I PREVENT ORAL CANCER?
The prevention of oral cancer involves:
-adopting a healthy lifestyle;
-cessation of tobacco use;
-reducing the consumption of alcohol;

The palpation of oral and peri-oral structures is also performed to detect any increase in volume and hardened areas. They can also be ordered complementary diagnostic tests (ex .: radiographs).
When a suspicious lesion is found, a biopsy of it may be recommended, allowing for confirmation of the initial diagnosis and their signs of malignancy.

606. Portuguese university contested in France

A Portuguese private university is training health professionals in France by 9500 euros, bypassing the selective admission of universities.
The University Fernando Pessoa, based in Porto, opened in Toulon and has training for dentists, pharmacists, speech therapists and psychologists. According to Le Monde, there are about a dozen of registered dental students after they have paid the said amount. But according to this newspaper, the students enrolled in this university are moving in front of students each year fail to enter a university because of the numerus clausus of the French educational institutions, which limit the number of admissions in the courses.
The National Union of Dental Surgery Students already rebelled against the existence of the Portuguese branch in that country and believes that this goes against the principle of equity in higher education and directly surrounds the health education system, including the numerus clausus.

603. Cheques dentists turn to be issued

The distribution of dental checks returned this Wednesday to be held, after being suspended about two months, confirmed the president of the Order of Dentists, welcoming the amount of EUR 16 million for the program. Today at 00h was given an indication to remember that the issue of dental checks resumes its normal course, as the Directorate General of Health [DGS] had already informed, said Orlando Monteiro da Silva, chairman of the Dental Association in speaking to Lusa.
For the sake of rigor budget management, the DGS proposed in late October, the temporary suspension of the issue of dental checks for school children up to December 31, 2012, remaining unchanged the process of issuing checks to other target groups of the program (pregnant, elderly, patients with HIV / AIDS). All goes according to plan, the president has confirmed, adding that health centers, schools and regional health authorities have been advised of the regularization of the situation.
Orlando Monteiro da Silva was even pleased with the budget allocated to the oral health program in the state budget this year, which is at least equal to the year 2012 (EUR 16 million), as had already announced the Ministry of Health. However, the president of Dentists looks forward to the detail of the ministry's budget to see if there is a reinforcement of this money in the program to include screening for oral cancer.
In 2012 dental checks covering approximately 400 000 users were issued, of which 300 000 correspond to school children and 100,000 pregnant, elderly with solidarity supplement and patients with HIV / AIDS.

602. Secretary of State for Health: go away

Portuguese should prevent disease, says Ministry - The Secretary of State for Health, Fernando Leal da Costa, believes that the Portuguese have an obligation to contribute to the sustainability of the National Health Service (SNS), preventing diseases and using less services. If we each citizen, do not do anything to reduce the potential of one day being sick, so we can collect more taxes to citizens, the SNS will be later or earlier, unsustainable, said Fernando Leal da Costa, in Speaking to Lusa.
Stressing that the maintenance of the SNS is undisputed for the Government, the Secretary of State Assistant to the Minister of Health says it is not enough to tax and it is necessary that citizens begin to have an attitude of prevention of diseases that they might not both services health.
The chairman of the Medical Association stresses that prevention of disease is a part of the Government itself, who advised the Portuguese to avoid the visits to public hospitals. It is clear that more can be done by preventing the level of governmental responsibilities, particularly by insisting more on health education and disease prevention in schools, correcting and stimulating lifestyles, said the TSF.
José Manuel Silva understands that users are not only able to prevent their diseases. Also using taxation to guide citizens to opt for styles of food and healthier life, concluded, in reaction to statements from the Secretary of State for Health.
* * *
Today was clearly demonstrated the existence of lobbies (group of people involved in trying to influence legislators or other public officials in favor of a specific cause) in order to transform the SNS into a paid service for citizens, regardless of mandatory taxes imposed by political power and lowering wages. Thus, before the sharp contraction in disposable income, political power follows the reverse policy advocated by the founders of the National Health Service, making less and less accessible to the population in general medical care, supported by the President of doctors. Open to privatization of health in Portugal; the large economic groups now have the ability to compete with the National Health Service: the government and the president supports the doctors helps out in the initiative.
Within oral health, Oral Health has consistently touched the various entities to constantly deteriorating accessibility of most of the population, particularly the most disadvantaged social classes and age groups of the most vulnerable, especially the children, adolescents and the elderly. 535 posts (read here) and 536 (read here) were sent to the Ministry of Health; detailed analysis of the various proposed solutions to the poor oral health of Portuguese could be the starting point for changing the current quagmire in providing dental care in Portugal. Unfortunately, the Ministry of Health did not respond to the letter until today; Simple measures could halve the costs necessary for the provision of oral health care.
Unfortunately, the current government follows the same line of action of the previous government, preferring that the Portuguese continue to spend exorbitant amounts to have access to oral health care; when the Secretary of State for Health speaks on the importance of disease prevention (after all, where is the Individual Bulletin Oral Health for all children and adolescents Portuguese?), it is good to remember that your government gives the worst example of this practice when resorting cuts of oral health care for children transferring money to large financial groups of the world banking. The Ministry of Health follows a dying policy, depending on the interests of private economic groups and banking, trampling the basic rights of the Declaration of Children's Rights, Portugal rectified by merely cowardly acts when the experts know that investing 100 euros in oral health translates If a saving up to € 3000 in the future.
Already had a former Health Minister Correia de Campos adept at using toothbrushes to combat infectious diseases (dental caries); already had a high official of the Regional Directorate of Education of Lisbon and Tagus Valley to recommend the consumption of fruits to combat infectious diseases (dental caries); now we have a Secretary of State for Health that asks not to use both Portuguese health services (as if each of us could choose when we get sick).
Secretary of State for Health: put the job position available to those who can do more with less money by the Portuguese.
